Zurich is small, immaculate and punctual. One terminal, an underground Skymetro to the E gates, a train station beneath the shopping centre with direct services across Switzerland, and an observation deck with views of the Alps on clear days. Everything is expensive, and everything works.

01Connections

Schengen↔Schengen: 40 min. Non-Schengen (E gates)↔Schengen: 60–75 min including the Skymetro and passport control.

Minimum connection times change

Airlines publish legal minimums per terminal pair; these figures are our comfortable recommendation, not the legal minimum. Verify with your airline for your specific itinerary.

02Sleep & nap options

Fair. No airside hotel; the Radisson Blu is attached landside and there are transit-friendly rest zones. Public seating is comfortable.

  • on airport

Radisson Blu Hotel, Zurich Airport — Covered walk from the Airport Center, 5 min. The famous wine-tower atrium; a dry walk from check-in.

  • near airport

Moxy Zurich Airport — Free shuttle or 10-min walk. Cheaper than on-airport options — relatively speaking; this is Zurich.

03Showers

SWISS lounges, and paid showers in the Aspire / Primeclass lounges.

04Food & coffee

Good quality, Swiss prices. The landside Airport Center has a Migros/Coop for cheaper supplies.

05Wi-Fi & charging

Free (time-limited tiers); good.

10Traveler warnings

  • E gates are non-Schengen and reached by Skymetro — allow 15 minutes.
  • Switzerland is pricey; a coffee costs what a meal does elsewhere.
  • Winter fog and snow can delay early-morning departures.

11Frequently asked

How far is Zurich Airport from the city?

About 10 minutes by train to Zurich main station, with departures every few minutes from the station under the airport.

Can I leave Zurich Airport on a short layover?

With four hours or more, yes — the train is so quick that an old-town walk is realistic. Keep a 90-minute return buffer.
